The original idea for
Nature’s Notions®
came to me in 1965 while hiking alone. Seeing
those little things often overlooked in the silent actions surrounding me brought great
joy and helped form my personality and longstanding memories.
These hiking experiences “rooted” my endless appreciation of the natural world, and
inspired various types of writing that would be lost to fire in 1970.
Nearly two decades passed, as the material world and gainful employment
distracted my interest. In 1998, a renewed passion for hiking quickly
opened my childhood vault of creativity. For five years thoughts were scribbled on paper,
recorded on tapes, and keyed into my first computer. Journals, sayings, ideas, poems, and
stories soon began to resound with the common theme of nature.
While hiking in the summer of 1993, it struck me that nature quietly
keeps busy pacing itself with time in an endless collection of notions
we know as life. The name
"Nature’s Notions"
was born that day, though
it was nearly two decades before something was finally published.
As luck would have it, my daughter grew up during this time and developed
a love for writing and editing. We share this website of literature
focusing on “outdoor themes for indoor dreams.”
